From the earliest days on earth, our ancestors used the fragrant plants to heal, uplift, anoint, and empower their lives. Why should fragrance, or aroma, be so powerful, and so sought after by people all over the world throughout history?
Thanks to laboratory research, we now know something about the chemistry and action of plant fragrances, which come from the unique and mysterious aromatic liquids hidden in various parts of plants--their leaves, petals, roots, seeds, bark, stem, and even fruit.
These aromatic liquids are called "essential oils" now, but they were called "precious oils" and "sacred oils" in ancient times. They were used anciently not only for physical well-being, longevity, beauty, courage, wealth and political power, but for sacred purposes in temples, religious rituals, and at births and deaths.
Typically, essential oils are very light to the touch (not greasy like cooking oil) and evaporate readily, releasing their aromas into the air.
Their function in nature is to keep plants healthy, free of infection, to repel harmful insects, and to communicate--to each other, to insects, to animals, and to us! As it turns out, the way they affect us is a lot like the way they affect plants, acting on our immune systems, our muscles, internal organs, skin and circulation, and even our emotions, sometimes all at once!
Now, Young Living is writing a new chapter in the Oil Story, discovering innovative ways to use and benefit from essential oils, through research, farming, formulating of unique essential oils blends, nutritional supplements, fitness and weight management, personal care, education, and its unconditional guarantee of quality.

I refer to essential oils throughout my writings and website because I believe they are so important. So I would like to share with you why I believe that and a little bit about them.
Then they opened their treasures and offered Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Matt. 2:11)
I like essential oils for a number of reasons. Here are a few:
-
Oils are referred to in the Bible about 188 times with Frankincense and Myrrh the most commonly known Biblical oils.
-
They affect us body, mind, and spirit which is important because to heal we need to be healed in all three areas.
-
Their history goes back to Egyptian time, about 4500 BC.
-
Since that time they have been used for healing, religious rites, burial ceremonies, etc.
-
They are considered by many to be the "missing link" in modern medicine.
-
They are very concentrated so a few drops will do. For example, one drop of peppermint oil is equal to 26 cups of peppermint tea.
-
Another thing that I think is so cool about them is they seem to have "divine intelligence" - they don't cause any harmful side effects in our bodies. For instance, in the research using oils for cancer, the oils go directly to cancer cells and leave the healthy cells alone. Drugs like chemo and antibiotics go in and wipe out everything. They are man made and therefore don't have "divine intelligence". I consider them God's medicine that He put here for us.
I have used Essential Oils since 1999 for colds, flu, sore muscles, upset stomach, headaches, my son's ear infection, to sleep better, to calm down, and to lift my spirits.
